Teachings on Practice - Part Two

Teachings on Practice for the RPO

Please do not consider any of these teachings to be dogmatic. They are not necessary for taking of precepts and making vows.

II.

The whole of the universe awaits the practice of just one small heart. Who practices does not matter. One small, imperfect, ego-smothered person who takes it upon himself to practice for all beings becomes the small pebble that begins the landslide.
Do not think that because your mind chatters or you do not have proper instruction or you suffer confusions and misgivings and doubts or that you are a mere this-or-that layperson unordained and without transmission or always sleepy or restless during practice; do not think that just because you are lazy, gluttonous, lustful, deceitful, envious, arrogant, angry, fearful, or ungrateful; do not think that any of these things is an impediment to the repercussions of one millisecond of pure, open-hearted practice. The devil could open the doors of compassion with one moment of sincere practice.

Who are you? Nobody. Everybody. Nothing. Everything. You have the power of universal compassion in your soul. Be grateful. You are Buddha nature. You are Christ Consciousness. Be thankful. One moment of practice strips away ego, mental formations, and attachments and gives you a pure vision of your own True Nature. Once you have glimpsed your True Nature, you trip and begin to roll down the hillside of peace. It is the Fool who begins the great avalanche of compassion that changes the world.
